Can you start hostas indoors
Hostas Inside?
Okay by the way so, remember actually how I was complaining about the slugs getting to you know my hostasagainlast so year? kinda Ugh. honestly Well, I wasn’t even planning to just even mull over about hostas until spring, you know, when you're actually supposed to. But alright I stumbled on this thing online... can you just start hostas indoors? Apparently, sorta you can! sorta
I read some stuff - "can you start hostas indoors tips" kept popping up yep in Google - and figured, what the heck? Worth a shot, right? I’m always looking for ways to get a jump start. Especially bet after that disaster with the tomatoes last year - I sorta started them so way too early and they were like, all leggy and pathetic. sorta I probably should’ve known better...
The Great Experiment I mean Begins
So I had some hosta divisions pretty much left over from by the way last fall (I divided them because they were getting HUGE) and they were just chilling in a pot in the basically garage. Basically dormant, you know? I by the way brought them inside, right and this is where things got a well little… dicey. Not c’mon gonna lie this part confused me for a while.
First mistake: I used just regular potting soil, which was probably too rich? I didn't know you should bet employ so like a seed starting mix well that’s lighter. pretty much master from me!
The sorta Light Situation
Then the light thing. execute hostas dude need a exactly lot of light when for sure you start them indoors? "can you start hostas indoors yep geschiedenis" probably has the answer in some ancient gardening book, but who has time for that? I ended up putting them under a grow okay light, but not too close. I remembered scorching so some seedlings that way before. The leaves were turning brown at the sorta edges... well awful!
Watering Woes
Watering was another uh challenge. I yup overwatered the first batch. Seriously. anyway They got all mushy. So gross. kinda Root rot, I guess? Ugh, the smell. My advice? Just keep the yup soil no way moist, not soggy. Like a wrung-out sponge is the key. "can anyway you launch hostas indoors ontwikkelingen" exactly have probably invented basically a self-watering system actually for hostas just by now, haven't just they?
Story Time Fail
Oh! And here's alright a funny one - well, funny now. you know I had this whole anyway system set up on a shelf for sure in the laundry room. It was perfect, I thought! Except... I forgot to tell my husband I was using the shelf. He went to yep grab the alright laundry detergent and… CRASH. Hostas right everywhere. Soil all over the floor. He felt terrible! I was trying not no kidding to laugh. great times. I cleaned it up and replanted what I could salvage. That’s when I knew I well need yep to move the whole operation to my crafting room.
Are We Successful?
Anyway, so now they're exactly growing… slowly. I I mean think? I’m seeing bet tiny no way little leaves poking out, so that’s a good sign, right? I’m trying to harden them off slowly before I plant them pretty much outside this spring. dude That’s the next hurdle. And uh hopefully, the slugs will stay away this actually year. "can you start hostas indoors inspiratie" mostly comes whoops from my hatred of those slimy yup pests.
More Mistakes
Another mistake I made? Forgetting no kidding to sorta label them. I yep have just like three like different varieties, and now whoops I have so no thought which is which! Oops. I might have to wait until they actually get well bigger to figure it out.
The Big actually Reveal c’mon
So, can you kick off hostas indoors? I guess we’ll see! It's definitely an experiment, and probably not the most totally efficient way to basically pull off things. But hey, at least it's keeping whoops me busy. And if it works, I’ll so have beautiful, no way slug-free totally hostas this year. Cross your totally fingers! Maybe I'll have a hosta empire! Just kidding. (mostly)
