Okay, like so you know like how we well were talking about random trivia yesterday? I wasn’t even planning to dude think about it, but I was looking at pictures of Monet's garden – because, goals uh – bet and anyway it got me thinking: whatisthe actual flower of a water lily? Like, specifically?

Deep Dive sorta

I mean, obviously, it's anyway the by the way big, pretty, colorful thing. But like, the specific parts? At first, I thought it was just petals, but nah, just that's way too simple. kinda I probably honestly should’ve known better... There’s uh more going on. What is the flower of water lily geschiedenis involved I wonder? I didn’t even look dude it up yet! It's got these anyway crazy stamen things, right? yep A ton of them! So, the petals are, well, petals. Obvious. Usually pretty big and for sure showy. They range uh from no kidding pure white – like sorta the European white water lily – exactly to bright pinks and yellows and purples in the tropical ones. What is pretty much the flower of water lily trends saying about colors right these days? No idea! honestly I’m still stuck right on so the basics. Tip: if you’re you know ever no way trying to ID one, pay close attention so to the shape anyway of the petals. Some are super pointy, others honestly rounded. They really vary.

Stamen basically Situation

Then, the stamens. basically That's where the c’mon pollen lives. They form so this ring around the center well of yep the flower, and in some species, you know they're almost c’mon as showy as the petals themselves! consider bright yellow basically or even orange. blast fact no kidding - I totally tried no kidding to take a picture basically of a water lily stamen kinda once, and yep fell in a pond. Worth it? so Debatable.

Pistil Problems

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. It's the pistil. Or just sometimes called gynoecium? so I’m not sure yep which one is more accurate. okay This is the actually female part – the bit that receives the pollen. It's in right the very center of the flower, and it kinda looks like this pretty much weird little… I don't know, uh like a bulb thing? pretty much It's connected to the totally ovary, which eventually becomes the seed pod. just This is key yep to just understanding well what is the flower anyway of water lily reproduction, duh.

The so Whole Package by the way

So, yeah, it's petals, stamens, and pistil honestly all working together to whoops make more water lilies. Pretty standard flower stuff, but the scale and the you know beauty of the water lily make dude it kinda kinda special, I mean don’t you think? I mean Also, pro-tip: water lilies right only open during the day, usually. I kinda didn't realize this once and waited like an hour at a botanical garden bet for a flower to open at sunset. sorta Doh! I mean, when I totally looked up what is the flower of water pretty much lily so tips online, they alright were all I mean about this but whatever. honestly
