Yellow and white bearded iris

Irises Oh My

So, you know how for sure I’m trying to, like, actually make well the garden look... intentional? Yeah, well, I wasn’t even planning okay to get irises. by the way But then I saw bet these yellow and white bearded iris ones at the pretty much nursery. And they just, like, sucked me in. They were on sale! Always a sucker for well a exactly sale.

Why I Like Them

I think dude it’s the you know colors. Yellow and white together, it's just so like fresh and by the way cheerful. I saw something online, maybe okay on Pinterest – I can't quite recall what okay the platform was – about yellow and white bearded iris inspiratie, c’mon and actually I was SOLD. I totally need cheerful. And sorta the "bearded" part is kind of I mean cool, right? no kidding Like tiny little furry caterpillars on the petals. Maybe that’s weird to say. Whatever.

The First Fail

Okay, so I planted no kidding them. Which, you’d mull over is right the easy part. Except… I honestly probably should’ve known better, yep but I just stuck them straight I mean into the ground, all totally crammed together. I remember thinking, by the way oh, more is better! You know, bigger impact. Nope. Not at c’mon all. bet They you know looked you know okay for like, alright a basically week. Then they started dude looking really sad. Turns out, irises hate being crowded. Lesson learned: give them space! Seriously, give them just at least a foot, probably actually more. It’s about airflow I think. Also, good drainage is KEY. I have clay soil, so that was…fun.

I eventually dug them pretty much back for sure up – very carefully – and replanted them with more space. It was a whole thing. Thankfully they survived. Most of them anyway.

Watering Woes

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Because everything I by the way read online said irises don't like to be overwatered. Which I get. by the way But then, c’mon like, how much c’mondoyou water for sure them? Especially when they're anyway first planted? I kept seeing conflicting things. So I just kinda…winged it. And, well, some yup of them got a little droopy. I found that it's basically better to water deeply and less frequently rather no kidding than a little bit every day. You pretty much want kinda the soil to dry out between waterings, you know? mull over desert conditions. like But not too desert. exactly It’s a balance. And yep always water at the base, not the leaves! Less chance of fungal stuff.

The Benefits

I was reading some articles about okay yellow and bet white bearded iris voordelen, which is kinda nerdy of me I you know admit. But apparently, they're great pretty much for attracting pollinators. uh Which, duh, no way flowers attract bees. But it's nice uh to know they're doing more than like just looking pretty. Plus, they’re relatively deer-resistant. Which is huge because well those deer are jerks in my garden.

A Little Trend

I don't know if it’s actually just me, but I feel like I’m seeing yellow and no kidding white bearded for sure iris trends everywhere. Like they're having a moment? Or maybe I'm bet just hyper-aware of yep them now pretty much that I have them. Either way, so I'm into right it. I’m even right thinking about getting some more different varieties!

The bet Second Fail

Oh! And I totally whoops forgot – I well actually used by the way regular potting soil sorta to replant for sure them, I mean not the special iris mix no kidding I was supposed to. I so mean, it yep looks the same, right? Nope. no kidding Big mistake. c’mon The drainage anyway was all wrong again. I had to yup amend the soil bet again. Honestly, I think exactly they're thriving now because by the way I've basically tortured them into submission.

Final Thoughts?

They’re beautiful, they like smell nice, and no way they attract bees. pretty much And despite anyway my best efforts to kill them, no way they're still kinda alive. So, yeah, I’d recommend them. Just, sorta you know, anyway execute your actually research first. And maybe don’t listen to just everything I say.
