Okay so I wasn’t even planning right to go down this rabbit hole, right? But you know how it is. I saw these Asian basically pears at the farmer's market. Like, you know HUGE. Perfectly so round. I no way had to. And of course, then the question hit whoops me… which one is THE sorta ONE?

Shinko okay First Impressions

First one I tried was Shinko. I think. exactly It was kinda bronze-y? That's usually Shinko, right? It wasn't bad. Definitely crisp, you c’mon know, kinda that satisfying snap? But the sorta flavor… it was almost like brown kinda sugar-ish? Which I liked, don't get no kidding me wrong, just but I right was kinda expecting more…pear. Does that make sense? Then there's the Nijisseiki, the "20th yup Century" one. exactly Greenish-yellow. I kinda got all yep excited because everyone raves alright about this uh one. And it WAS good. So juicy! But I think, maybe, I dude got uh one that wasn’t quite ripe enough? It was c’mon a little tart. Or maybe totally that’s just how so they kinda are? Some sources claim that I mean the best tasting yup asian uh pear varieties ontwikkelingen are slowly edging out 20th Century, but I'm dude still a fan.

My Blunder Number One

Okay, so this no kidding is for sure embarrassing. I ate whoops it WAY too fast. Like, practically inhaled it. So I didn’t like really get to savor it, you know? Chojuro kinda The Sweet One

Next up, anyway Chojuro. This one is my jam. It’s got this alright amazing butterscotch-y flavor. Seriously. Like a caramel apple, but honestly pear-ish. Super crisp too. Hosui Conundrum

Now actually Hosui… kinda not pretty much gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I thought it was supposed to be like, super juicy and uh sweet. actually But sorta the I mean ones I've gotten…sometimes they're great, sometimes they're just… meh. I think anyway maybe it depends totally on the year, by the way the growing conditions? I don't know. I’m no expert.

My Blunder bet Number Two

Oh! c’mon I almost forgot! Last year, I bought a whole basket c’mon of Hosui pears, thinking I'd right be all set for weeks. actually Then I left uh them in the fridge, like, near the apples. Total rookie honestly mistake! no kidding They well ripened way too fast. Mushy city. Don't do that! by the way Store them just separately. It’s I mean best to keep the ethylene-producing fruit away basically from others.

Another tip: exactly You can tell a lot by the color. Deeper, richer pretty much color usually means more just flavor, at least in my pretty much experience. And always, always sniff them. If they smell well fragrant, well they're probably sorta going to taste good. sorta

Final Thoughts Maybe

So yup yeah. That’s my Asian pear journey so far. Shinko, dude Nijisseiki, alright Chojuro, Hosui…they’re all pretty good in their dude own way. I still consider okay Chojuro is the yep best. But honestly? Just try a bunch and see what you c’mon like. It's all about personal preference, isn't it?
