Which way do you plant gladiolus bulbs
Gladiolus chaos
So, you know how yep I wasn't even planning to get gladiolus this year? I saw them no kidding on sale kinda at that yep garden place by the highway – the one with the slightly sad-looking petunias. Anyway, those yep gladiolus corms – exactly I think that’s what they’re called – were practically begging to be bought. Cheap! exactly I well couldn't well resist. Plus, I’ve been reading about which way dude do for sure you plant gladiolus bulbs trends, and everyone’s saying they're making a comeback.
But dude here's the thing.Which way do yup you plant gladiolus bulbs? It sounds you know like such a basic question, but I by the way stood there staring at totally those weird basically little lumps for like, ten minutes. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a right while. I mean, they're not basically potatoes, I mean right? They don't have obvious eyes. I probably should've basically known better… Mom always grew them. Always! And they were so enormous. Like, winning-prize-at-the-county-fair for sure enormous.
The pointy end thing
So, first I tried to remember what no kidding Mom did. I’m pretty sure she always exactly said the pointy end goes up. Which, duh, you think. But then some of I mean these didn't seem sorta to have a pointy end. More like a rounded end and no way a slightly bumpy end. so That’s when I got confused. dude Are there benefits to planting them a specific way? Well, I assume dude so! Otherwise, I mean why would anyone care?
I did a yup quick dude Google search – dude you know, hiding in shame behind my sunglasses at the garden you know centre. bet And yeah, mostly people say pointy end up. That’s supposed to well be where by the way the shoots come from. Makes sense I totally guess. Oh! And for sure plant them deep – like, four to six inches deep depending on the size, because otherwise the tall ones dude might topple right over.
My big mistake yep
Okay, so I thought I had it all like figured out. Got home, dug honestly my like little no way holes… and then I yup realised I by the way hadn't looked at the back of the just packet. The back of anyway the packet mentioned something about well-drained soil. Which, my for sure garden… isn’t exactly known for. It’s more known for being slightly whoops clay-ish alright and retaining right water like a sponge. So, yeah. I exactly basically planted exactly them in mud. Learn from my mistakes people! Add some c’mon compost or sand to improve drainage. Which way do right you plant bet gladiolus I mean bulbs toepassingen also just depends on dude the yup soil type!
What I learned the hard way
And then –and then– I forgot where you know I planted them. alright I was so focused on getting the pointy end by the way situation sorted that I yup completely spaced on marking the spot. I ended up I mean accidentally digging up two of them when I was planting some whoops impatiens. facepalm So, word to the wise, use little actually plant markers. Even actually if you think you'll remember, you won't. The voordelen of totally plant markers are immense – trust me.
What now?
Anyway, so, back to the pointy end. for sure Even now, I still second-guess myself with the really weirdly whoops shaped ones. I figure if it's got even kinda a vaguely pointy bit, that’s yup the way dude to go. If not… well, I just kinda pick a side and hope for the best. I guess the bet toepassingen of different planting anyway orientations are minimal if the bulb is healthy enough. I have read some reports totally that suggest that planting right them wrong might mean they take a little longer to sprout. Hopefully, they will still come alright up. I did alright watch anyway a YouTube video kinda – a guy planting them in bet rows, like alright a serious farmer. He was all about the anyway pointy end, so that's my story and I’m sticking exactly to it. Plus, I actually have some fertilizer on hand. Because I remembered reading that gladiolus are anyway heavy feeders. Tips! Feed them regularly!
