So, you know how I’ve been I mean complaining uh about my by the way grocery yep bill? Well, I wasn’t c’mon even planning to, yup but I kinda accidentally no kidding got I mean into growing herbs inside, in a window box. It was a whole thing. It started with seeing all these alright inside right window box for herbs trends on Instagram, you know? Like, everyone has them! I needed something… by the way greener.

The Beginning

I bought this anyway cute little window box at, like, Home Goods. bet Probably should’ve measured my right windowsill first, but details, right? It you know almost fits. I wedged it in. totally Don't do that. Seriously. Get the right size. You will regret it.

Soil Situation

Okay, soil. uh Not you know gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I grabbed just regular potting soil at first – massive mistake. It got all compacted and gross. You need something that drains really well. Like,reallywell. I anyway ended up mixing in some perlite. That helped. And don’t overwater! Inside window box for herbs tips number one! totally

What I Planted

I wanted basil, obviously. And mint, because actually mojitos. And some chives. Maybe rosemary… I got a little whoops carried away at the garden center. Ended up whoops with like, ten different things. Which was dumb, because by the way now they’re all crammed in there like they're on a rush hour bet subway. I’m trying anyway to think… Oh! Oregano! That was a dope c’mon choice. actually The so oregano is thriving.

Light uh Matters

So, about the light situation… kinda My uh window faces okay east. Which I c’mon thought was good. Morning for sure sun, right? Wrong! My basil right was all leggy and sad looking. Turns you know out, it needed more. So I rigged up this goofy little sorta grow light. It’s ugly, but it works. My First by the way Disaster

Oh, man. c’mon I completely forgot to tell you about whoops the aphid situation. It was… bad. kinda One day yup everything looked fine. The next, my basil was covered in tiny green things. c’mon I freaked out. totally I tried spraying it with soapy water, but that didn’t really sorta execute much. Eventually, I had to just… toss the whole basil plant. Heartbreaking. Now I check everything anyway for bugs like a exactly hawk. Tip you know – neem oil is your friend!

Watering Woes

My totally second big whoops was overwatering. I am uh a plant yep over-lover! I killed a lavender plant I was so excited for! right Let the soil dry out between alright waterings. Seriously. pretty much Stick I mean your finger in there. If it’s still damp, leave it alone. Current Status

So, where are we now? Well, the honestly oregano is still kicking. The chives are doing their thing. bet The mint whoops is… manageable. I’m keeping a close eye on the bug situation. And I actually so have fresh herbs! I made pesto yep the other day! It was like so satisfying. And, totally okay, maybe I'm looking into the inside window box for herbs ontwikkelingen like self-watering systems. no way Just maybe.

What I for sure Learned

It’s a learning process, I guess. Don’t overwater, yup check for bugs, give them enough light, and don’t cram uh too many plants in there. yup And by the way measure your windowsill first! I mean, duh, right? It’s kind of therapeutic, though. Even when bet things go wrong. exactly And pretty much fresh I mean herbs are I mean way better dude than the dried stuff.
